The irredeemable chick flick
My wife and I recently noticed that we're an unnusual couple in that we enjoy the same shows and movies. We both watch "24", "Prison Break", "NCIS", and "The Unit." I enjoy "Smallville" and she likes Lex Luthor. And we both enjoy the mathematics on "Numb3rs".
We've even enjoyed the same movies. She recently tried to think of her favorite movies from high school and came up with "Robin Hood", "The Rocketeer", "Wild Hearts Can't Be Broken". I had not seen the "Wild Hearts" movie when I was in high school, but I definitely agreed with the other two and would say "The Rocketeer" was still one of my favorites. I added anything with "Indiana Jones" and she agreed.
But, alas, it had to happen. I've watched many "chick flicks" with her (by the way, is it required to include "This Will Be (An Everlasting Love)" in the soundtrack of every chick flick???) and enjoyed them. I enjoyed "You've Got Mail" and "Hitch." (I'm getting a hankering for Benadryl just thinking about that last one).
But last night we attempted to watch "Pride & Prejudice" together.
Didn't work.
I fell asleep.
My wife suggested I should try watching it when I wasn't falling asleep. I'm not sure if that's possible. I'm afraid that watching the movie is immutably connected to falling asleep.
If it happens to be your favorite movie, I hope you enjoy it and watch it often. I'll just be in the next room with "The Rocketeer."

Were you watching the six hour one or the new one? and depending on your answer...I'll watch Rocketeer with you.
I have to say I enjoyed Pride and Prejudice.
Let me explain.
First, I am the father of two daughters.
Second, I work at a Christian bookstore with young Christian women.
So It has been a great witness to me to experience the maturity and level of purity that these young women I work with whom have grown up in the Baptist church. I work at LifeWay and it is a SBC run chain. Although I myself am Presbyterian.
Anyways back to the point. So my daughters are getting older, not quite to junior high yet, but it won't be long.
Here's the thing, I don't believe in dating that much and I especially don't believe in dating in high school.
Now, I'm not old fashion and I'm not conservative. I'm just convicted by Gods Word that a women and a man should not pursue an intimate relationship unless they are ready to marry.
This is how I plan on raising my girls. I want them to understand the seriousness of developing an intimate relationship and I want them to understand how important sexual purity is to God.
So, I like Pride and Prejudice and also Little Women and Sense and Sensibility. I believe all these movies demonstrate a more courting type of attitude and a deeper respect for intimacy and union.
The Christian marriage and home are two very important aspects in my life and I want to teach that to my children.
Soooo......... anyway, that's why I like those two movies. :) In a culture where sex is cheep and women are expected to exploit themselves and marriages are failing and so on..... I believe movies that witness to how important union is are important. :)
In His grace,
Dave.
I found out last year that P&P is my Dads favorite movie. My jaw is still dropped.
You know, I really think it's because you were too tired, maybe you'll like the six hour version better. After all, you did like Sense and Sensibility and Emma, didn't you?
And Dave, we're right there with you on the dating thing.
And, BTW, Hitch was not a chick flick.
I have not seen the new Pride and Prejudice. I enjoy the six hour version--it's my Valentine's Day gift this year. I must say that Mrs. Bennet drives me nutty and I just want to smack her. My hubby and I enjoy the same movies as you guys.
